Instrument Project Engineer – Up to £50,000
Location: West Bromwich, West Midlands
Here at Nelson Permanent Placements, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Instrument Project Engineer to join a well-established company based in West Bromwich. Specialising in industrial manufacturing, this is a key role within a highly skilled team, responsible for the full life-cycle management of instrumentation projects at a lower-tier COMAH facility.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee chemical plant instrumentation projects from concept to commissioning, handling various systems such as level, flow, temperature, pressure, mass instrumentation, PLC controllers, safety instrumented systems, and intrinsic safety.
* Manage the modification of plant instrumentation systems using a change management process.
* Create and modify instrumentation drawings using CAD or similar software, ensuring familiarity with documents such as loop drawings, I/O lists, P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, bills of quantities, and equipment schedules.
* Maintain detailed records on modifications, repairs, specifications, and more.
* Ensure instrumentation systems comply with industry regulations, including DSEAR/ATEX.
* Understand and apply control and safety systems, managing proof tests in line with HSE guidelines.
* Work towards ISO 9001 standards and promote continuous improvement across projects.
Experience and Skills Required:
* Extensive experience in the chemical process or similar regulated industries, such as Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, Food, or Oil & Gas.
* Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, with a solid understanding of DSEAR/ATEX compliance.
* Familiarity with Planned Preventive Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance, and continuous improvement practices.
* Sound knowledge of HSE requirements and functional safety standards IEC61508 & IEC61511.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications:
* A recognised Instrumentation apprenticeship with a minimum HNC qualification.
* 5+ years of experience managing instrumentation projects within industrial or regulated environments.
