About the Role:
An inclusive SEN unit attached to a mainstream primary school in East Ham, Newham, is seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Down Syndrome. The SEN unit caters to 7-8 pupils with varying needs and offers a nurturing and supportive environment to ensure every child thrives. This role requires a dedicated individual with prior experience working with children with Down Syndrome to provide tailored support for academic, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 support to the pupil, ensuring their needs are met within the classroom and SEN unit environment.
Adapt learning materials and activities to suit the pupil's abilities, promoting engagement and participation.
Collaborate with teachers and other staff to implement the pupil's individualized education plan (IEP).
Foster the pupil's communication, independence, and social skills through targeted strategies and interventions.
Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required, maintaining the pupil's dignity and comfort.
Monitor and record the pupil's progress, celebrating achievements and addressing challenges.
Requirements:
Proven experience working with children with Down Syndrome, ideally in a school or educational setting.
A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children with additional needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with the pupil, staff, and parents.
Ability to adapt and work flexibly within a dynamic SEN unit environment.
A commitment to promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.
Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant certificate or equivalent (desirable).
