Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging and challenging English lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, including GCSE and A-Level English Literature and/or Language.

*

Inspire students to develop a love for literature and the written word through dynamic teaching methods.

*

Prepare students for public examinations, ensuring they achieve their full academic potential.

*

Foster an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, debate, and independent learning.

*

Provide tailored feedback and academic support to help students progress and achieve their personal best.

*

Contribute to curriculum development and innovative teaching strategies within the department.

*

Support and participate in extracurricular activities, including creative writing clubs, literary events, and school productions.

*

Collaborate with colleagues to maintain the high academic standards of the English department.

*

Uphold the school’s commitment to student welfare and safeguarding.

Person Specification

Essential:

*

A degree in English, Literature, or a related field.

*

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.

*

Experience teaching English at secondary level, ideally including A-Level.

*

A deep passion for English literature and language, with the ability to engage and motivate students.

*

Strong classroom management skills and high expectations for student achievement.

*

Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.

Desirable:

*

Experience in the independent school sector.

*

A record of strong student outcomes at GCSE and A-Level.

*

Experience in mentoring students for university applications, particularly for English-related degrees.

*

Willingness to contribute to wider school life, including theatre productions, debating societies, or journalism clubs.
