Salary: £50,817 + (Commensurate with skills and experience)
What you'll be doing:
A Senior Mechanical Engineer reporting into the Technical Lead within the Weapon Systems UK, Engineering Function. This role is within the M777 Major Structures (Production) Programme, working closely with the Operations, Quality and Technical Data Pack (TDP) teams.
The main duties of a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Weapon Systems UK are as follows:
Lead the development of solutions to technical issues as a member of a project team, reporting to Technical Leads and directly to the customer.
Lead and/or support solutions to production and manufacturing technical queries raised by suppliers, internal stakeholders (i.e. Operations Team) and non-conformance reports within required project time frames.
Developing design solutions based on customer requirements, validating, and verifying through the design process.
Review and check design work and technical reports, providing help and direction to less experienced engineers.
Carrying out technical analysis and investigations and preparing reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.Your skills and experiences:
Essentials:
Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or a high level of experience within an engineering environment, whilst having experience writing and reviewing technical reports and specifications
Design experience in a multi-disciplined, production and/or manufacturing environment, answering technical queries and non-conformance reports. Experience performing structural/stress analysis and is familiar with product data management (PDM) tools to configuration manage data
Working knowledge of technical office processes, standards and standard instructions (i.e. Business Management System (BMS) and Life Cycle Model (LCM)). Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Experience working with welding codes or casting standards and requirements
Experience assessing welded structures (pressure vessel and shell structures) or casting structures (desirably titanium), determining their suitability through analysis, and providing technical solutions and conclusions to non-conforming welds or castsDesirables:
Working experience using CAD software (CREO Parametric) and PLM software (Teamcenter)

The Weapon Systems UK Mechanical Engineering team:
This role is to support the M777 Major Structures Manufacturing Contract, supporting the overall delivery of technical and production decisions, and leading on specific engineering tasks as defined by the Technical Lead.
As part of the Weapon Systems UK Mechanical Engineering team you may also be involved in supporting technical changes to our existing product portfolio (i.e. M777 towed howitzer, 4.5" MK.8 MOD 1 Naval Gun, AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer & 105 Light Gun) through analysis, concept design and tests and trials. This role also allows you to put forward your innovative ideas and solutions to the next generation of weapon platforms for the future battle space.
