Major Recruitment are seeking an experienced Specification Technologist to join our client's site at their manufacturing site near Buxton.
As a Specification Technologist you will be responsible for reviewing all specifications for both branded and own label products, artwork in line with all labelling policies, working to launch deadlines and critical time scales. Be involved in reviewing raw material content to develop gold standard specifications to improve compliance.
Key Responsibilities as Specification Technologist:
Support external audits, covering traceability from supplier to end customer.
Support the Food Technologist and Specification technologist where necessary.
Assist the Technical department with GMP, hygiene and internal audits.
To maintain the raw material supplier database.
To complete food safety risk assessments and specifications for raw materials entering the business. Working cross-functionally to ensure all new raw materials are sourced and purchased from approved suppliers and to acceptable specifications.
Coordinate and arrange Supplier visits, internally and externally, as and when required.
Regularly visit sister sites to ensure and assist with Supplier Compliance.
Complete and maintain product specifications to approved and active status.
Maintain customer portals to ensure information is current and accurate.
Carry out ongoing assessment of ingredients to ensure suitability and compliance Generate, maintain and update relevant raw material systems and databases liaising with Operations, Technical, Procurement and NPD as appropriate.
Ensure that all suppliers either existing to the business or a new supplier/material to be introduced into the business has full/current approval status.
Participate and contribute in internal audits.
Ensure that all information held centrally on supplier approval is reflective of the factories supply base and risk assessment outcome and escalate appropriately internally / externally if discrepancies are found.
Assist in the capture of information and co-ordination of responses in the event of a food safety alert.

Salary up to £37,000 d.o.e.
Monday - Friday 8am - 4.30pm

Career progressionSkills & Experience required to be a Specification Technologist:
Food industry technical administration/specifications experience, with knowledge of writing retailer specifications.
Have a good understanding of HACCP, be comfortable managing multiple tasks at once, excellent communication skills will be important within this role liaising with teams to ensure all work is completed on time to top standards. Someone who is analytical and problem solving would thrive within this position.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in Microsoft, can influence across all departments to build relationships.
Ideally degree/NHD educated in a food science, food technology or nutrition discipline.
A background of working with products such as chilled prepared foods, ready meals, food-to-go or similar product would be an advantage.
