SEN Teaching Assistant

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (Full-time or Part-time)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

Do you have a patient, adaptable approach and a desire to help students reach their full potential? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with students with a variety of SEND needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Your day-to-day duties will vary depending on the needs of the students and the school, but your primary focus will be helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve personal and educational growth.

As a SEN TA, your responsibilities may include:

* Supporting individual students or small groups with their classwork, tailored to their specific needs.

* Assisting children with social, emotional, and communication skills.

* Helping children develop their confidence and independence.

* Supporting students with physical, sensory, or cognitive challenges.

* Assisting teachers with planning and delivering lessons, adapting materials to meet different learning needs.

* Managing or de-escalating challenging behaviour in a supportive and positive way.

* Providing additional help during playtime, lunch, and other school activities.

You will work across different subjects and age groups, building positive relationships with students and their families, as well as with teachers and the wider school community. Each day will bring something new, requiring flexibility and the ability to think on your feet!

General Teaching Assistant (TA) vs. SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA):
While a General Teaching Assistant (TA) supports teachers by assisting with classroom activities, maintaining order, and helping all students in general, a SEN Teaching Assistant has a more targeted focus. As a SEN TA, you will work with students with additional needs, providing specialised support to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. You will play a vital role in developing strategies to assist students in overcoming their specific challenges.

What We’re Looking For:
The successful candidate will:

* Have a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.

* Be patient, empathetic, and able to maintain a sense of humour in challenging situations.

* Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, with a proactive approach to solving problems.

* Be willing to learn and collaborate with the wider school team.

* Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong, positive relationships with students.

* Experience in SEND is desirable but not essential—an open mind and willingness to learn are key!
