Work in a trusted environment, building new prototypes yearly, with no probation period, in a new purpose-built facility, with some of the most technically challenging work you will get to experience as engineer.

What’s in it for me
This is an opportunity to join a growing team and business focused on hardware and software for spectrum monitoring, geolocation and RF signal intelligence. They’ve recently moved into a new state of the art premises in Cambridge, where they will be bringing all manufacturing and R&D in house, regularly working on new prototypes for custom projects and clients. Why would you want to join this company? The Head of Hardware recently left his position at an exciting start-up as the Head of Engineering to join this team. In his own words “I’ve worked across lots of exciting projects, and teams, including formula one race cars, but the technology I’m now working on is the most technically complex and challenging I’ve worked on in my career so far”.  You’ll be joining at team which describes its culture as “independent, interactive, proactive, clever and people who are happy to work autonomously”. This is not a ‘core hours’, heavy KPI environment. Quite the opposite, you’ll be given the freedom to work on new projects, often managing your own time. The business believes in their hires, so you’ll also join without a probation period once you’ve been offered the role.
As well as no probation period, you’ll be looking at a salary of up to £60,000, private medical insurance, death in service, Electric vehicle lease scheme, flexible working hours, hybrid working set up, 3% pension and 25 days annual leave.

What will I be doing
You’ll be joining as one of the few hardware engineers in the business, so this not the type of environment where you will be pigeonholed into one team. Instead, your responsibilities will be broad across spectrum monitoring products, with applications in autonomous drones, space satellites, surveillance equipment. Your role will include developing hardware, circuit design, prototyping, producing design documentation, develop bespoke testing tools for your designs, planning and prioritising your own work. To be successful in this job, you will be a well-rounded Hardware Engineer. You’ll need capabilities in PCB design, knowledge of high-speed digital design, capabilities across analogue and digital electronics, some coding in embedded firmware using C will be advantageous. You’ll also have experience in using micro-controllers. The circuits you’ll be designing will be complex, and as such it’s important you’ve worked on complex technology yourself.

Who will I be doing it for?
You’ll join a company with over 130 members of staff, in a team of 4 other hardware engineers. You’ll be based near north Cambridge, in a brand-new, purpose-built facility with R&D and manufacturing capabilities. This is a business which trusts it’s staff and takes care of its people through regular salary reviews and excellent opportunities for progression. You’ll be joining at a critical point of growth, for the last 3 years they’ve increased profits, turnover is strong, and the business is extremely busy with products, on their journey to becoming a £100 million business.
