About this client: Fabulous Josie is 15 years old, and lives at home on the Isle of Wight, with Mum, Dad and her two younger siblings. Josie is a fun loving, engaging teen with a great sense of humour and loves music, particularly boybands (One Direction and Jonas Brothers), swimming in her hydrotherapy pool, movies, playing with her siblings, and will LOL if you make silly (fart!) noises or break into song and dance! Josie sustained an Acquired Brain Injury; she has a physical disability and is reliant on others to meet all her needs. She uses a manual wheelchair and walker, has a PEG in situ for medication, fluid and to top-up nutrition, but enjoys a soft food diet also. Josie communicates through sounds, facial expressions and body language. Although Josie is medicated for her Epilepsy, she can experience up to 100 seizures per day, these are short and do not tend to disrupt her typical day. Emergency medication is always on site and on person. Josie requires 2:1 support during the day, and 1:1 waking night support, her family home is fully adapted (ceiling track hoists etc.). Now there is an opening to join her amazing team to support Josie during the day. Previous experience is not essential, personality fit is key!
Overview of role: The afternoon shift starts at 1:30pm, preparing Josie’s therapy room, tidying her spaces, restocking, and setting up activities for when she gets home. You'll do the school run with another team member or parent. After school, Josie’s routine includes administering medication, toileting, a quick snack, and her therapy programme (sometimes with her sister reading alongside). Then it’s time to relax before dinner and a bath. On weekends and holidays, Josie enjoys festivals, family outings, and activities, and your role is to support her participation and promote independence. Josie relies on others for all her ADLs and personal care, with full training provided for her care and medical plan. It’s preferable if you’re open to occasional night shifts and travel (1–2 weeks, with notice) when the family goes on holiday.
Who this job would suit: If you're new to care, but eager to start a support role, or you're an experienced SEN professional seeking a fresh challenge, this could be the perfect job. You’ll be positive, calm, intuitive, and truly passionate about helping others reach their full potential. If you love boybands and chocolate – that's a BIG bonus!
What’s great about this job: Excellent person-centred training, supervision and ongoing support provided. You’ll learn new skills, work alongside professionals and of course the very best thing is working with Josie – I guarantee that she will make you smile and laugh every single day! She is a total ray of sunshine – but also knows her own mind! A truly rewarding position.
