Machine Shop Manager
Special Testing Ltd is a member of the Special Steel Group of Companies. We are one of the leading Material Testing companies in the country and serve customers operating in many different sectors with a wide range of tests accredited by UKAS & Nadcap.
Following significant investment in new CNC machine tools, we would like to appoint a manager of the facility to oversee, develop and maximise the output of this precision machining operation. This department is critical in feeding our mechanical and metallurgical laboratory with high volumes of precision test piece samples in a variety of nickel alloys, stainless and alloy grades of material.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you shall be responsible for day-to-day organization and administration functions and the role would include both office and shop floor based tasks associated with running a fast moving and busy machining facility, equipped with multiple bandsaws, manual lathes, and CNC’s. Typically, you’ll be;
* responsible for production control and planning within the machine shop in cooperation with the Production Manager and laboratory management team
* Manage and supervise the employees including operational output, quality of parts, discipline, attendance, holidays & shift rotas
* Maintenance of H&S, quality and operational procedures within the facility
* Management of machine tool condition, performance, service & repair
* Purchase of shop floor consumables and raw material.
This is a key appointment, and you will be expected to work closely with other Managers within the company to ensure we meet or exceed our business goals.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
The ideal candidate has qualifications / capabilities in an engineering discipline. You will already have supervisor experience from within an ENGINEERING environment, preferably with manual and CNC equipment and associated tooling, and be able to use a combination of technical and leadership skills to focus the employees and deliver both a rapid and high-quality product to our laboratory.
You will be self-driven and ambitious, with strong people management and team building skills. A good knowledge of typical Microsoft Office programmes is essential.
