C&I / Electrical Engineer
Locations: Based in Glasgow with regular travel to Sizewell B (Suffolk)
 
We are looking for talented engineers in the early stages of their career (graduate to 4 year experience) to work with the EDF Electrical Team in Glasgow (6 Atlantic Quay, Robertson Street, Glasgow, G2 8JD) as a C&I / Electrical Engineer. The role will involve support to the design and management of cabling systems at Sizewell B power station (IP16 4UR).
 
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in a career in the nuclear industry and be driven to work and learn valuable engineering skills in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Electrical, System and Project Engineers to support the safe and reliable operation of existing electrical systems, as well as major new modifications to plant as part plant lifetime extension activities.
 
Disciplines Considered
We will consider engineers who have graduated within the last 4/5 years in the following disciplines at a
BEng / BSc level or degree equivalent with relevant industrial experience:

Electrical and Electronic Engineering
C&I Control and InstrumentationRelevant experience in industrial cabling design, or electrical/C&I role since graduation is beneficial, but not expected. 
 
Duration of Position
Full-time (38h/week) initial fixed duration of 1 year role, with a view to make permanent on completion of the initial contract. The role will commence in early 2025, subject to completion of the security vetting process.
 
The Role
The successful applicant will be based in Glasgow, with time split between both the EDF and Risktec offices (9 George Square, Glasgow G2 1DY) in the city centre. Anticipated 2 days per week within the EDF offices, and 3 days per week in the Risktec office – hybrid working will be available on agreement with EDF and Risktec line management during the role tenure. The role will also require travel to Sizewell B Power Station to support the Electrical System Engineering Group and Project Teams based on site. Any costs associated with travel to Sizewell B will be covered by expenses.  
 
As a C&I / Electrical Engineer, you will work alongside a team of experienced engineers across the central and site-based teams. The role will involve the management of cabling systems on site and will support projects involved in modifications to major plant items. On a day-to-day basis, this work will involve, but is not limited to the following:

Support to the management of cabling design and management via the CADMEC system. This will involve:
Operation and manipulation of site cable tracking programme.
Reviewing and conducting modifications within cable tracking programme and ensuring compliance with site and programme regulations.
Close out activities at the back end of projects.
Ensuring that project risk is managed throughout station processes and that quality is maintained through all aspects of the engineering process.
Implement changes to plant, where required, using the Engineering Change process.
Undertake equipment reliability reviews and plant walkdowns.
Take part in condition monitoring of plant to ensure the smooth and continued reliability of the plant.
Review of preventative maintenance routines for the identification and implementation of changes to the operation and maintenance of the power station within internal and regulatory frameworks.
Assist in providing technical advice during the development and implementation large investment projects.
Identification and management of critical spares and equipment obsolescence.As part of this role, you will gain a broad and in depth understanding of risk management, design and operations within a large generating site.
There have been a large number of Risktec junior engineers who have been employed at Sizewell B recently. Many of these have developed very quickly and a high proportion have gone in permanent positions on site. A development and mentoring strategy, with oversight from Risktec Principal Engineers, will be in place to ensure that the successful candidate is provided with the training and support required.
 
Security Clearance Checks
Due to the nature of the work, the candidates must have a suitable background that will allow them to achieve UK security clearance (please note that this is very difficult to achieve within the timescales for non-UK nationals, and you will subject to a screening process prior to interview to ensure that you meet the security clearance criteria).
