About the Role

Our client are seeking an experienced Interim Procurement Specialist to join their team for a temporary role. This position will involve collaborating with stakeholders to assess requirements for goods and services, evaluating market options, and developing strategies for high-value spend areas. You will play a key role in managing strategic supplier relationships, driving continuous improvement, and leading the implementation of innovative category plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement strategic category and supplier relationship plans for high spend/high risk areas.
Identify market gaps and engage with suppliers to enhance service provision.
Collaborate with key suppliers to explore opportunities for benefits, including economic and environmental improvements.
Gather insights from contract managers and suppliers to inform commissioning and operational strategies.
Lead complex projects and tenders, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies.
Influence procurement agendas and lead cross-authority projects.
Provide guidance to senior management on commercial viability and procurement strategies.
Promote best practice approaches within the procurement function, maintaining high standards in policies and processes.

Essential Experience:

Degree-level education with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., MCIPS) or equivalent experience.
Extensive knowledge and practical experience in category management within complex environments.
Proven track record managing multi-million pound contracts, with a focus on continuous improvement and supplier performance.
In-depth understanding of public sector procurement and contract law.
Strong negotiation skills for high-value contracts.
Experience in supplier development and market adaptation.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate political environments.
