This is an opportunity for a technically minded Software Engineer to join our Ventures business, where digital, innovation and strategy comes together

Lead technical direction for a mission, develop and drive best practices and enable teams to solve their hardest problems

Work with customer-focused agile squads and collaborate with product managers, architects and engineers to define the next iteration of NatWest Boxed

What you'll do

You’ll establish and apply widely agreed software engineering principles and methodologies to design, develop, test and maintain applications and services to achieve the stated business and technology goals within required budgets and timelines. We’ll also look to you to oversee the quality of work, making sure that it meets technical standards.

You’ll also:

Support in the creation and lead in the implementation of engineering strategy and roadmaps across the business and within your mission

Support the squads within your mission with technical design, ensuring that they meet the current and future needs of the business

Inject the expertise to ensure high quality solutions that are highly resilient and give our customers the best possible product experience

Provide leadership of a Chapter and ensure technical priorities are clear and effectively communicated

The skills you'll need

You’ll need a strong background in software engineering, software design and architecture, as well as extensive experience of developing software in a SOA or micro-services paradigm. You should also have proven technical leadership experience for one or more teams and a background of implementing best practice, especially around scalability, availability and performance.

You’ll also need:

A track-record of proactively identifying and solving business problems with your team.

Ability to effectively deliver value when faced with ambiguous problems

Ability to act as a subject matter expert and communicate with clarity and empathy to both technical and non-technical audiences

Understanding how to translate business objectives into data driven insights that can then be leveraged by a team to produce better outcomes

Expert-level practical and theoretical knowledge of Java software development and substantial experience of message-driven architectures
