Head of Growing Operations
Our client is a highly innovative leader within their field and the largest cell-grown tree nursery in the UK. The team has decades of experience, with growing practices being meticulously refined to ensure the highest standard of trees are available for customers. Due to continued success, they are now searching for a hands-on Head of Growing Operations to drive agronomic excellence throughout their plant propagation and growing department.
The Head of Growing Operations is the most senior role within our clients growing team. The key objective is to manage all growing stages to ensure the overall Production Plan is met, that plant husbandry requirements are delivered, and that each department works in a timely fashion to manage the interchange of stock between the functional teams.
With planned volumes in excess of 20m trees produced per year, resource planning is key including understanding the seasonal variation of resource requirement. Phasing the Sowing Plan and the Transplanting Plan is critical due to crop development, as is identifying growing space in advance of the transplanting stage.
The Role
The day to day management of the nurseries three growing sites. To include people management & development, irrigation management, climate management, identification and control of P&D and coordination of pesticide spraying.
The Head of Growing Operations will sit within the business’ senior leadership team and be expected to contribute to future business direction and capital investment planning. In addition to analyse previous and current investments and report on all activity within the functional area.
Your Profile
You will be an effective communicator with extensive crop production experience ideally within the arboriculture sector. You will need to demonstrate the ability to proactively manage teams, all crop P&D, fertigation strategies and be confident with environment control systems. Confident when dealing with others, able to influence and engender change.
