The Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) is a supportive, inclusive educational space for Key Stage 4 students who have faced challenges in mainstream education, resulting in permanent exclusion. Situated within a Grade I listed building, the school offers an adaptable environment tailored to both individual and group learning needs. With facilities including a kitchen, games room, and multipurpose classrooms, they provide a unique setting where students can re-engage with their education and work towards personal growth.
Role Overview:
They are looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant who is enthusiastic, compassionate, and resilient. This role involves supporting our Key Stage 4 students both academically and emotionally, helping them overcome barriers to learning in a way that fosters confidence and growth. You will work alongside teachers and support staff to create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in delivering tailored educational support to small groups and individual students.
Support students with challenging behaviours, using de-escalation techniques to maintain a positive and calm learning environment.
Help create engaging learning experiences using our diverse facilities, including the kitchen and games room, to meet a variety of learning needs.
Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging social and emotional development.
Work collaboratively with the teaching team, families, and external agencies to support students' individual goals.
Requirements:
Previous experience in a similar setting (PRU, alternative provision, or SEN schools) is desirable.
Skills and experience in managing challenging behaviour, including effective use of de-escalation techniques.
A genuine commitment to working with students who have struggled in mainstream education.
Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
