Job Title: Community Cookery Teacher

Responsible to: Head of Community Projects

Hours p/wk: School Holidays and casual hours as required

This role would ideally be suited to someone who works in an educational setting and would like some additional hours during the school holidays.

Pompey in the Community is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, charismatic and dedicated sessional cookery teacher to work in our Community Projects department. The key role of the role is to provide engaging, educational and safe community cooking and engagement sessions. The main opportunities will be in the school holidays delivering sessions to young people aged 8 – 15. There will be up to 12 young people at anytime and you will have an assistant to support the sessions.

Hours in the holidays are likely to be 9.30am to 2.30 pm with the children present from 10 – 2pm. There will be other optional opportunities during term time.

The usual day during the school holidays consists of the cookery group making their own two course lunch and then baking something to take home with them.

Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for:

* Delivering cooking sessions in PitC’s kitchen classroom.

* Adhering to PITC’s Safeguarding Children, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Equal Opportunities and all other policies at all times.

* To carry out routine checks on all kitchen equipment and to ensure equipment and all areas of the kitchen are safe and clean

* To ensure fridges and freezers are cleared weekly and that no food is stored beyond safe storage dates

* Ensure sure that your DBS check, Safeguarding Children, First Aid and any certificates are kept up to date.

* Organising and supporting food donations and work with project coordinators and other agencies to ensure donations are maximally utilised

* Ensuring that all sessions are properly recorded and registers are properly maintained and returned promptly.

General

To represent Pompey in the Community and Portsmouth Community Football Club in a professional manner at all times, regarding to uniform, presentation, personal hygiene, attitude, conduct and professionalism. To be able to work flexible and unsociable hours where the role of the job requires including evenings, weekends and all home match days

PERSON SPECIFICATION DESCRIPTION

Qualifications

Essential

FA Level 2 Food safety Certificate

In date Safeguarding certificate (or willingness to update ASAP)

In date First Aid certificate (or willingness to update ASAP)

Able to communicate effectively with young people, parents, team members and members of the public

Ability to coach, encourage, motivate and provide reliable support to young people

Desirable:

Teaching or similar qualification

Experience:

Experience of community cookery and working with young people including those with additional needs.

Experience of teaching young people how to cook

Examples of self-motivation and the ability to work on own initiative.

Desirable

Experience of working with young people with additional needs

Other Duties

* To comply with the requirements of the staff handbook.
