Join Our Team as an Individual Needs Assistant – Support a Year 1 Child

Are you compassionate, patient, and passionate about helping children overcome unique challenges? We are seeking a gentle and understanding Individual Needs Assistant to work 1:1 with a lovely Year 1 child who struggles to be in a classroom setting. Your role will be to provide personalised support, including some personal care throughout the day, helping them access the curriculum while understanding their unique needs and the difficulties they face in following instructions and staying in class.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 support to a Year 1 child with specific needs, both in and out of the classroom.

Assist the child in accessing the curriculum and completing work, adapting activities to meet their individual needs.

Help the child manage transitions and overcome difficulties in following instructions.

Offer gentle guidance and positive encouragement to keep the child engaged in their learning.

Provide personal care throughout the school day as needed.

Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to ensure tailored support is in place.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

Previous experience working with children with additional needs, preferably in an educational setting.

Experience supporting children with difficulties in following instructions or staying in classroom environments.

A DBS check registered on the update service or willingness to obtain one.

A patient, kind, and nurturing approach, with the ability to build trust and rapport with the child.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with teachers and staff.

A flexible and empathetic attitude, ready to adapt to the child’s needs throughout the day.

Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality policies.
