Job Title: Managing AP (Appointed Person-Lifting)

Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base)

Service Area: Alongside Services, Service Delivery

Hours of Work: 37 Per week

What You’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Restricted Berth Manager, the Alongside Services Managing AP role is a specialist position requiring in-depth knowledge and experience of lifting operations. The post holder will liaise with team leaders/Managers from other sectors of Alongside Services departments in support of the wider delivery service.

You’ll be expected to make rapid informed decisions when priorities change within Portsmouth Naval Base, organising work streams utilising the Business computer systems, Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) and our the integrated mobile work order management system (Mobiess) to relay and capture all work associated task and timings.

You’ll also oversee all slingers and crane drivers and ensure they are fully briefed in accordance with the lift plans. With responsibility for ensuring that all lifting operations are conducted in a safe manner and that all laid down policies and procedures and safe systems of work (SSOW) are followed, you’ll organise the timely issue of a Declaration of Ships Planned emissions, rotations and transmissions (DERT) form prior to any lifting operations commencing.

Last to note, you’ll line manage a team of Port operatives with varying skills, including heavy Lifting , ensuring health and safety protocol is paramount at all times.

You’ll Have:

An extensive background and understanding of heavy lift services, mechanical handling and slinging from a managerial perspective. Coupled with this, you’ll be a competent, proactive and positive people manager with a thorough understanding of Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER)

Essentially, you’ll be the holder of a recognised Appointed Person qualification to NVQ level 5/6 or similar, be fully conversant with Liccon (desirable) and be competent with the use of LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998 and BS712.

About you:

With a full, valid UK driving licence, you’ll naturally champion continuous improvement and show an organised approach to prioritisation and delegation. Aligned with these key qualities, you’ll also be able to deal with reactive issues, whilst encouraging and coaching others through an array of associated tasks.
